The Outer Banks is Going Green

by Admin 1. July 2010 03:58

Going Green isn’t just for tree-hugging hippies anymore. It’s a lucrative business decision as well. With recent change in both local and national government policies, going green  is easier and more appealing than ever before. Creating an energy efficient home will not only be a strategic marketing advantage for vacation rentals and it will save homeowners valuable money on their utilities.

Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s) use 75% less energy than typical bulbs, lowering your electric bill by up to 30%. Vacation rental owners  can save by installing digital thermostats which can be locked to certain temperatures to help with high energy bills during the summer season. Numerous other products are available to make your home more energy efficient and earth-friendly. To help our vacation rental owners and homebuyers get the most out of their Outer Banks properties, Sun Realty has created a green division of Sun Services complete with personal Go Green Specialists.

Our Go Green Specialists can oversee all the necessary renovations to lessen the carbon footprint of your home. Sun Services offers caulking of windows and doors, lockout digital thermostats, window tint, Smart Strip power strips, Radiant Barrier Garage Door Insulation Kits, Foam Gaskets for switch and outlet plates, and compact fluorescent energy efficient light bulbs. Purchase a go green package or choose the individual changes you would like to make to your own home.

If you are interested in updating your Outer Banks home, business or investment property to green, call Dane Akers at (252) 546-2553 or email with inquiries to daneakers@sunrealtync.com

Rent your way to Retirement

by Admin 25. June 2010 10:24

We’ve all heard the phrase “It’s never too early to begin planning for your retirement.” While the typical person would begin compiling a list of trusted financial advisors referred by friends and family, the truly savvy future retiree would also call a real estate agent.

Purchasing a second home is an investment in your future and provides several options for retirement. The Outer Banks is one of the most lucrative vacation rental areas on the East Coast. Every year over 5 million visitors come to the Outer Banks, providing a huge market for vacation rental properties. Purchasing a vacation rental home on the Outer Banks can provide supplementary income, which can be put away for retirement or back to the bank note on the home. This retirement strategy works best when income property is purchased sooner rather than later ensuring the home will be paid off or pretty darn close to at the time of your retirement. This would allow you to a) have a mortgage-free home to retire to in the Outer Banks or b) have source of income during your retirement should you continue to make it available to vacationers.

Sun Realty can provide the expertise you’ll need to find a second home to fit your budget and retirement plans. We are the largest real estate sales and vacation rental company on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. For more information or to connect with an agent call 1-888-853-7770.
